While some of us are aware of the health benefits of coffee, there are certain benefits that are not commonly known. The history of coffee, and how it is made is also very interesting, yet it is not common knowledge.

1.) Coffee Beans are actually seeds

Coffee beans are in fact seeds that are harvested from the fruits of the Coffea Plant. They are only called beans because of their bean-like appearance.

Two of the most popular coffee beans are Arabica and Robusta. 2 lesser-known, but very rare, coffee beans are Liberica and Exelsa which were first harvested in the Philippines.

Yes, there is a type of coffee called Kopi Luwak and it is made from the faeces of the Asian Palm Civet (cat-like creature). It is also the most expensive coffee in the world.

Due to its popularity, it is enjoyed all over the world, coffee is the world’s 2nd largest traded commodity after crude oil.

14.) Finland consumes the most Coffee in the World

The average Fin consumes around 12kg of coffee per year. Compare that to the average American who consumes only 5kg per year.

There are over 100 species of the Coffee Plant. However, the 2 most popular species are the Arabica and Robusta species. 70% of the world’s coffee is made from the Arabica coffee plant.
